The training workshop aims to strengthen the capacity of researchers in conducting biotechnology research and development to contribute to a strong agriculture biotechnology industry in Southeast Asia. Through this capacity-building activity, improved agricultural biotechnology manpower in the Philippines and other Southeast Asian countries as well as future cooperation and partnerships in the development of agricultural biotechnology industry among the countries in the region are hoped to be established.

Faculty members of HEIs, R&D officers and staff of national research and development agencies in Southeast Asia

Seminar-Workshop on Strategic Communication on Agricultural Biotechnology Using Risk Communication Methodology

Description

This workshop will be held in response to recommendations arising from the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) High Policy Level Dialogue on Agricultural Biotechnology meeting in Sapporo last year, during which the importance of strategic communication to enable biotechnology acceptance was highlighted as a priority item. The many stakeholders involved inbiotechnology require that their distinctive needs and concerns be addressed through science-based communication. The messages must also be customized for each stakeholder group.

This seminar-workshop is being organized to allow experience sharing and leveling-up of the skills and knowledge in stakeholder-targeted communication. The theory, principles, and techniques in risk communication will also be discussed during the meeting.
